Coding Best Practices Wiki on OpenNTF
The web design does not match OpenNTF yet and the content is not yet fully uptodate, but I think it is a good start.
Thanks Richard van Delft and Pepijn Hammecher for setting this up.
And yes I know IBM has their
Domino Web Application Development Wiki, but we decided on this during Lotusphere, long before the IBM wiki was launched. Giving up just because IBM beat us in time was not an option. ;)
Check it out
Technorati tag: OpenNTF

Is there a discussion page as well? Seems like someone (Vandana Hirasingh) hdid enter most of (all?) the pages, and I don't agree with all the "best practices" listed there. I think it would be a good idea to have a discussion first, before someone try to dictate what the best practice is.
I know for example that using underscore in field names can cause problems when using db.FTSearch()...
I think it was Bill Buchan who had a presentation at Lotusphere a few years ago about best practices in development, including the use of different colors, etc.
I also notice that Vandana often write "must", I think it would sound better to use "should". Things like that...

Karl-Henry, why do you need a discussion section? It's a wiki! You just edit the pages!

I actually agree with Karl - Wikipedia has discussion stuff too, and since this is a group effort about things that are very subjective, it would be good to be able to discuss things.
I also think that we should have a series of best practices "topics", and then we could even give different "flavors" of best practices for that topic. Take, for instance, Hungarian Notation If you're a proponent, then you have a set of BP guidelines for variable naming; if you're not a fan of Hungarian Notation, then you probably have a different - but equally valid - set of Best Practices for variable naming. It would be nice to be able to present multiple angles of the more "artful" topics.
I think also we need to stress that, while there may be different flavors and beliefs in Best Practices guidelines, the overarching required rule is to BE CONSISTENT - whatever best practice guidelines you choose, be consistent in using those guidelines throughout your application so other developers will know what to expect.

sometimes a picture say more than xxx words, I would like to see some printscreens of property boxes etc, just to speed up the interpretation of what is being written...
